... where LIFE SCIENCE
meets PHYSICS

Institute of Applied Physics – Friedrich Schiller University Jena

The Institute of Applied Physics (IAP) conducts basic and applied research in the fields of optical design, micro-, nano- and quantum optics, fiber and waveguide optics as well as ultrafast optics. Collaborative projects with industrial partners and cooperating institutes, such as the Fraunhofer IOF, guarantee practical relevance and feasibility to solve questions in the market fields of energy, environment, health and communication.
Another essential part of the IAP’s self-understanding is the training of students and young scientists - not only in optics, but also at the interface with physics, chemistry and materials science in co-operation with the Abbe School of Photonics (ASP).
