... where LIFE SCIENCE

Friedrich Schiller University Jena -
Abbe Center of Photonics

ACP is an interfaculty center for optics and photonics research and education, formed by more than 45 principal scientists of the Friedrich Schiller University. ACP’s principal scientists come from various backgrounds spanning from physics, chemistry, and biology to medicine. In joint research projects, we cover both fundamental and applied topics in the three strategic domains: Ultra Optics, Strong Field Physics, and Biophotonics. Internationalized, research-centered Master and doctoral programs are run by the center’s integrated Abbe School of Photonics (ASP).

In 2016, ACP was given a new home by a top-notch research building at the Beutenberg. This building is part of the University and now offers the possibility to cover the Abbe School of Photonics' research-centered education directly at the Beutenberg campus. Moreover, the new ACP building is an excellent spot for international workshops and conferences related to photonics. The public area within the ACP building can thus be utilized for respective events – not only by University members, but also by our partner institutions at the Beutenberg campus.
