Abstract:
Drosophila melanogaster is the basis for one of the main scientific models in neuroscience. Especially the research of the fly´s olfactory system played an important role to gain insight into the principal function of odor detection. How can we transfer this model and develop a technical application? The first steps on the way to a possible biosensor are to understand cellular processes as well as underlying neuronal networks. In the talk recent new findings will be presented i.e. the role of inaD in the olfactory system. By using Drosophila to detect volatile substances in a paper producing factory, a first step on the way to a possible technical application was made. First data of this project will be presented.
