"From brain to behavior: the neural basis  of insect olfaction"

Prof. Dr. Ilona Croy

"Why smell – the importance of olfaction for human communication"

Abstract: Human interaction is characterized by how we perceive each other and perceive others by the cues and signals they send out. While human research is traditionally concerned with facial expressions, gestures, and voice, body odors are often neglected. Yet body odor is a fascinating cue providing information about the metabolism of others. Animals orientate themselves by the smell of others, and humans also use it to draw conclusions about eating habits, age, menstrual cycle, and even current emotionality.
In these first two lectures of the DZPG Jena series, we will shed light on olfactory communication and its impact on behavior - from animals to humans.
