Abbe Center Beutenberg
The opening of the Abbe Center in January 2006 provided the science and innovation campus on Jena’s Beutenberg with a new central focus. This central building houses the communal facilities used by all the institutes based on the Beutenberg Campus. These include a cafeteria (Casino) and a lecture hall.
After the casino closed at the end of 2024 and the responsibilities of the University Service Company were transferred to Department 4 “Real Estate and Construction” of Friedrich Schiller University Jena at the end of 2025, only Beutenberg Campus Jena e.V., the Abbe School of Photonics, and the Max Planck School of Photonics are currently still based here.
Following completion, the building was awarded the ‘Thüringer Preis zur Förderung der Baukultur’ (Thuringian Prize for the Promotion of Architecture) by the BAUKULTUR foundation.
The striking architecture of the Abbe Center, combined with its spacious public rooms, makes it eminently suitable for lectures and festive events. These spaces can comfortably accommodate up to 200 people.
