Fluorescence techniques are a common way to detect bacteria and viruses, but most of these techniques depend on adding external labeling agents. Synchronous fluorescence can avoid this addition by detecting the auto-fluorescence of amino acids and other aromatic compounds of bacteria and viruses. In the presentation, first, the principles of synchronous fluorescence are explained; and second, the identification of E. coli bacteria and detection of φX-174 virus is demonstrated. These developed techniques can be implemented at domines like environment, food, and medicine.
